For us US'ers who would have to fly across the Atlantic to enjoy your superior Fish and Chips in the UK, we do have have a few "almost" as good as alternatives here in the US, one being just few blocks away called the Hook & Reel, and their deep fried fish and shrimp baskets. Their Fried Flounder basket is much like your Fish and Chips and for variety their Fried Catfish is also pretty good, and for more variety likewise for their Fried Shrimp.
Hmmmm .... ??? ... I think I just talked myself into a pickup tomorrow evening of their Flounder and Chips basket.
The Hook & Reel advertises as a "Cajun" seafood chain; but what they don't seem to have are the once super-popular, Cajun favorites, Crab Burgers. Imagine a hamburger made with a grilled thin crab cake rather than a meat patty.
