What kind of fish do you have with 'fish and chips' in the States?

Or is it called a 'fish fry'?
In the UK we have plaice, rock, cod, haddock. I always have plaice, a flat fish and it's delicious. 🐟

In my area it's usually cod for fish and chips outfits. For seafood outfits it's fresh flounder or grouper in my area.
