What kind of fish do you have with 'fish and chips' in the States?

Or is it called a 'fish fry'?
In the UK we have plaice, rock, cod, haddock. I always have plaice, a flat fish and it's delicious. 🐟

You have the good stuff there. The fast food fish & chips here places started slicing their fish thin and doubling the batter a long time ago. Long John Silvers closed up here several years ago because people weren’t having it. It used to be the number one chain for fish & chips in the USA. . It is very unhealthy. That fish on the plate in the photo looks delicious.
