What kind of fish do you have with 'fish and chips' in the States?

Or is it called a 'fish fry'?
In the UK we have plaice, rock, cod, haddock. I always have plaice, a flat fish and it's delicious. 🐟

What do you use on your fish n chips? I love tarter sauce and lemon on my fish and ketchup and vinegar on my chips

@Vin53 I love tartare sauce too, but usually lashings of salt and vinegar on my fish n' chips!
