What kind of fish do you have with 'fish and chips' in the States?

Or is it called a 'fish fry'?
In the UK we have plaice, rock, cod, haddock. I always have plaice, a flat fish and it's delicious. 馃悷

When I order it at a restaurant, I only do so if it's cod... too often they try to substitute it with pollock or some other whitefish.

I'd accept haddock or halibut, but that's almost never an option here.

@Ontheroad A lot of Restaurants have been known to just say scrod when asked.
OntheroadM
@Vin53 Yeah, and when you question them, they don't know scrod refers to several different young whitefish.

@Ontheroad My local chippy always has cod, I've never known them to serve pollock, but the price of the fish is extravagant. 拢11- without the chips!
