Back in the 1960s you could buy potato-scrubber / peelers that consisted of a cylinder lined with what looked like abrasive.
They were driven by connecting an inlet hose to the tap and turning that on fully, with internal nozzles directing the water to swirl the spuds around against the abrasive and wash the residue down the drain.
Very wasteful of water, of course, and as far as I know no longer available, at least in domestic versions.
