I highly recommend the Too Good To Go app! In my area there are sadly only 4 participating businesses, but the deals are great! Just got a variety of

donuts, like TEN of them for $5.40 after tax. Tiff's Treat's normally has a dozen cookies for a ridiculous $24..I get them for $9.73 after tax. Circle K gives you $13 worth of items for $4.32 after tax: they gave me a ham and cheese sandwich, cream cheese icing brownie, mixed fruits, and an uncrustable; I gave it to someone in need (great way to bless someone with a full meal on the cheap!). You reserve a surprise bag and pick it up, easy as pie.

Update to add: just discovered I had selected a very limited area..there are more businesses participating if I expand a bit :)

I've been using this in England for a couple of years. Works out great if travelling somewhere, and at the time you arrive and get a cheaper lunch/ breakfast
I use another called Olio..where regularly people like us,go pick up food from supermarkets, cafes etc and put on for free to go pick up. I've got bought bread in about a year..so much wasted

@HotPizza71 so cool! I just saw Olio myself and was going to look into it. It is a shame more restaurants would rather waste entire racks of simple bread, and trashcan bins of food...than feed others.

@foldedunfolding someone should be liable for the overcooking of items and amounts wasted. When I worked in restaurants, there was a budget for wastage.. and we didn't dare go near the maximum, for fear of a right bollocking
