I assume php to be Philippino pesos?
SW-User
@samueltyler2: Correct, but can I correct you if you don't mind? Its Philippine peso sign.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
I stand corrected. Can I also ask, when is Filipino correct and when Philippine?
SW-User
@samueltyler2: The word, "Philippines" is a country, while the word "Filipino" pertains to the citizens living within Philippine territory.

@herecomesthesun: thank you. I have trained and worked with a fair number of Filipino physicians and always got that confused. I bet there is a story that about how the country starting with a P ended up with citizens starting with an F!
SW-User
@samueltyler2: Wow! So from accounting to history!😂
Well, it is publicly known that we were once colonized by the Spaniards. It is Queen Isabela I of Spain who named our country as "Filipinas" ( also known as Las Islas Filipinas).
Then later, after the revolt and bloody war b/w Spaniards and Filipinos. Here comes the Americans! Thanks America!😂
They helped us to redeem our liberty as Filipinos, but American colonization happens!
There were changes in our constitution...
That's the reason why from "Filipinas"(Spanish word) it changed/translated to "Philippines" (American English word).
Now our country is called or known as "Philippines"!
That explains!

@samueltyler2: There is no change of word/term for the citizens. Still 'Filipino' is being used as a general term for all the citizens( the safest I think).
Though, when we start to talk about gender you can classify: Filipino for men and Filipina for women!😉
