The Musical Offering & Café-Bistro, Berkeley California

One of my favorite places of all.I haven’t been in a few years, but when I worked in Berkeley, on half days friends & I would go hang out there.

It’s right near UC Berkeley’s campus…

Originally they sold classical records, I believe they still sell cds. Much of my classical collection of both are from their shop.

Occasionally they have live music, too—performances from local musicians, which is a treat. Classical music, of course…

but also jazz…

Excellent coffee and food…
Oh! And the old book store is close too! Check out the 1st editions from like 1899 and stuff
Dont forget to go to Rasputins records down the street and then some blondies pizza ;)
Very nice.
They could sell records again as they have come back into vogue.

Tuna Niçoise Salad for me please
@Ghostinthemachine Lol, I meant the salad, I’ve tasted it. 😄
@bijouxbroussard Silly me, and now I’ve chipped my tooth on Mozarts Magic Flute

I'd never make it there, I'd get distracted by all the boba tea shops, plant nurseries, and end up the opposite direction over to the East bay Vivarium!

Sounds like a cool place though. Can't beat live music.

Looks like a great place to hang out. I trust they survived the pandemic and are still in business.

Fantastic photos, btw.
@Rutterman Yes, I checked today And they still are. Shorter hours, but still open.

@bijouxbroussard Very glad to hear that. I'd love to visit the place someday.

I absolutely loved this. It's like being there. I still have a dream of seeing Haight Ashbury...I know it's changed, but I'd still find value in it.

I visited that store when I lived in Berkeley, back in the very early '80s. Of course, they sold vinyl LPs. I don't remember much about the cafe.

I’m surprised how inexpensive it is. California has such a reputation. Those offerings would cost more where I’m at.

I can certainly see why it would be. Books, music, and an appealing menu...nice. They even have a roasted eggplant sandwich! 🤤🙂

Wait, did they shut down?
@Northwest It’s listed as open right now. But their hours are shorter, they’re closing at 2 pm today. Usually they were open until 4.

@bijouxbroussard They offered a great escape from cafeteria with inexpensive and great food, and the music was great. Those were the pre-latte days. Not that I care, I don't drink anything with coffee in it.

I so wish they did something like that here.
