Nowadays, they are almost never actual fortunes. They are usually just proverbs. (At least the ones I get.)

@ProfessorPlum77 They do each give a list of "lucky numbers". I have had Chinese food so often in my lifetime, that by now I am sure every integer from 1 through 99 is my lucky number!
