I used to drink to solve my issues...in my experience it just made more. So now I simply stick to my few issues so I don't make more

That's a very different perspective to look at that situation. I haven't drank in almost 13 years, but I have never thanked God for the many, many beers and drinks I consumed in my life. But maybe I should. Got me to where I am today. And maybe I'll start thanking him for when I light up all the cigs I haven't been able to break over the past 30 years.

Any minor inconvenience makes me wanna drink

@Wallflow3r Same. It’s the first place my brain goes. A smoking! But I’m not a smoker. I never have been one. I think that was a learned response from growing up with smokers, how they dealt with stress.

@nonsensiclesnail I miss being a smoker

@Wallflow3r My dad. Started when he was 12 and is now…87 i think. He quit so many times and in his very old age started again. I think the last time he quit it was for 15 years, but he said every single day he wanted to smoke, so he finally gave back in.

Stress is something that should be handled in a constructive and healthy way.
Just try and think of a different way to cope with life.

I can somewhat relate - what I do is reflect on how I will feel about it the next day and try to substitute with some other more constructive activity...the reward mechanism with alcohol is very strong - knowing that, we have to be deliberate with how we deal with it...

I think i would want to break this into 2 components. The stress and the alcohol are separate issues. get rid of one and deal with the other. myself, I avoid stress with a passion and drink when I want to. I enjoy a cold beer when I come home from work and more than one on a weekend. I'm not going to feel bad about it. I do feel bad about stress. Don't need it, doesn't help anything. When faced with a potentially stressful situation your choices are fix it or fuq it. pick one, go to a nice place and order an Old Fashion, the works smoke and everything! Yummm...!!
On the other hand, if you feel like drinking is destroying your life knock it off! my mother passed when her liver gave up because she pickled it with bourbon. go to meetings, don't go to meetings, whatever works. Stress will kill you too. I had a boss that was a real stress puppy once. he had a heart attack in a parking lot while freaking out on some guys who worked for him. I was already gone from there but knew people.they stood around and laughed at him gasping on the ground. he did survive. I actually ran into him once later and he seemed a much calmer individual. make of that what you will...

I used to drink and smoke weed and drink and weed was my best friend until it turned on me .
All I can say is be careful .
You don't need to handle stress .
Everything passes . Nothing passes when you drink .
