As someone who was born in Pakistan I can tell you that due to Pakistan being an Islamic Republic the sale and consumption of alcohol by Muslims is strictly prohibited and punishments for them being caught drinking or being drunk can be quite severe. However hotels in areas frequented by tourists may and do sell alcohol to non-Muslim foreigners with the strict rule of only drinking within the hotel and not outside as even foreigners Muslim or not can get in trouble for drinking alcohol.
However due to the corruption in Pakistan (and usually if you’re a foreigner) and if you have enough for a bribe you can usually get away with it

I assume in any authoritarian country, the rich are doing all the stuff that they ban. Project 2025 involves banning porn, but you just know the Republicans are gonna watch the porn they confiscate.

@Silpa18 What's the punishment for a Muslim drinking?

@BohemianBabe I don’t live in the US so idk about or really follow American politics, but here in the UK you can get fined or jailed for commenting something the state deems offensive. But the UK and US are far better and far less authoritarian than countries like Pakistan which is a true authoritarian country with real persecution and discrimination of women, LGBTQ+, the Baloch people, Christians, Hindus, and basically any non-Sunni Muslim group.
And when it comes to the government of Pakistan we have a saying about the military which is that it has never won a war but it has never lost an election, in reference to the Pakistani armed forces and Inter-Intelligence Service (ISI) getting too involved in government affairs like elections and in the transfers of power between prime ministers.
And back to the banning of alcohol for the people but the higher ups enjoying it yes, in practically every Muslim country even Saudi Arabia you’ll have members of the y and elite partake in non-Muslim activities like drinking and it is hypercritical
