legal drinking ages vary from country to country....is it a little extreme that it's 21 in the united states?

in canada it's 18/19 depending what province you live in. what's the legal age in your country?

In my state someone under 21 can drink with direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian. In addition, the age for getting a bartender's license is 18. Go figure...
@BrewCityBarfly that is weird about the bartender's license. in my province where the legal age is 19 and 18m y/o who works in a restaurant cannot serve alcohol. i was buying a bottle of wine at the grocery store one day and the "underage" cashier had to call her manager to scan it....so stupid
@beermeplease It is weird. I used to go to a pub and wanted to get the bartender a drink and couldn't because she was 19. I think 19 should be the age in the US frankly.
@BrewCityBarfly i agree... my thinking is if the legal age is 21 that age is where testosterone levels spike and they'll abuse it once they hit 21....they'll kick the hell out of their body. whereas when you're 18 or 19 you're still young enough where you're a little more respectful to others and yourself. i hope i'm explaining myself properly
@beermeplease @BrewCityBarfly I’ve always thought it seemed ludicrous that by U.S. law, one is old enough to drive, vote, get married, purchase property, serve in the armed forces at age 18, but prohibited from having a beer. 😳
@bijouxbroussard i know...it boggles the mind...can an 18 y/o purchase firearms in the states?
@beermeplease I believe long guns are 18 and handguns are 21. However, that doesn't prohibit someone under 18 from having a long gun since hunting is big in this state. There are variations in the law regarding adult supervision depending on if someone has passed a hunter safety class.

I passed that class when I was about 12, and actually bought a shotgun when I was 16. Laws have probably changed since then.
