I refuse to tip at restaurants unless I received extra services. Why would I?

Now that there is no tax on tips, my stance is reinforced. Tips are supposed to be rewards for EXCEEDING expectations - not for meeting the bare minimum standards.

I agree but if they exceeded my expectations I tip a minimum of 10% in cash and make sure I thank them in person for looking after us so well.
@OutoftheGloom I also always tip and thank if they exceed expectations or provide some extra services outside the basic requirements. Do you NOT tip for just basic service?

@AmericanAvenger no I wouldn't tip if I didn't think it was above the basic standard but I'm English, we don't really do big tipping as a rule.
