Name something that got a bad rap. I’ll go first, MSG.

MSG (monosodium glutamate) is used as a flavor enhancer to boost the savory, mouth-filling taste known as umami. It is added to restaurant dishes, canned vegetables, soups, and processed meats. It acts as a sodium substitute (containing about 12% sodium compared to table salt's 40%) and a mild meat tenderizer.Invented in 1908 by Japanese biochemist Kikunae Ikeda, MSG was designed to emulate the savory flavor found in seaweed broth. Today, it is manufactured by fermenting starches, sugar beets, or sugarcane. While early iterations were extracted from wheat gluten, modern commercial MSG is odorless and resembles white crystals or fine snowflakes.Historically and presently, MSG is a staple ingredient in Asian cuisines and is commercially available in the U.S. under brand names like Accent. It is also famously used by food manufacturers to deepen the flavor profile in savory snacks like chips, bouillon cubes, and frozen meals.

Some people have an allergy to it, and so it unfairly developed a reputation of being bad for everyone. I knew a Japanese student, studying in the US, who bought it and used it as a spice when he cooked. He was shocked to learn that Americans viewed it negatively.

I think we're going through something similar with gluten. Not everyone has a gluten intolerance. But sometimes it is referred to as being "unhealthy" in general.

@DrWatson I get heart palpitations when I eat food with it added. Maybe most people don’t but it’s not healthy for me. It is also a source of sodium that is not necessary, and it has a bitter flavor. Why add extra sodium in addition to salt that has some flavor to the food?

Yes it was given a bad wrap only years later to be given back its reputation for improving flavor. Now the truth came out it's harmless
Vaccines are getting an undeserved bad rap from the tRump admin.
