What's so special about Scotch?

I just do not understand all the hype about it, because it tastes disgusting. Quite often I'll come across a character in a novel that will be crazy about the stuff, even when it makes no sense for that character to be so fond of it (ex. they'll be French or German, when we all know this scotch obsession is mainly an Anglo-American thing).

Anyway, my verdict on this substance is a big, fat 🤮

Pfuy!

@0uijaFinger Demons like it 😌😅
The variety of tastes of single malt scotches is a treat for connoisseurs, like yours truly.
@LamontCranston Connoisseurs? Okay, but to me it tastes the way I imagine petrol would taste.
@DLight De gustibus non est disputandum: in matters of taste there can be no disputes.

I remember reading 40 or so years ago Norman Mailer saying he drank scotch because there was no hangover. So I switched to scotch and he was right. Several years later when I quit drinking I realized the reason why there was no hangover was because I wasn't sober long enough to get one.

Single malts can be delicious

it has a sophisticated buzz
of course it tastes like petrol
@H1raeth I didn't know buzzes could ever be categorised as being "sophisticated", but okay, if you say so.
I’m not a fan, my first encounter was at a younger age and got so sick I’ve never touched it again . If I even see the bottle I urge 🤢. Lesson learned !
Just a nice tasting glass of wine 🍷 for moi ☺
🤦‍♂ haha
@Iknowyourouttheresomewhere Yes, wine is much better than scotch. I don't drink alcohol very often, but when I do it's always something I know I'll actually enjoy.

I agree. I was told that I needed to develop a taste for it, but I couldn't figure out why that made any sense.
@exexec Exactly! If something is actually good, you don't need to "develop a taste for it", because you'll already like it.
The older gens were/are obsessed with cigs and scotch, and it's probably as simple as being pounded (maybe pun intended) by media about it.
@Magicianzini Yes, and I've noticed those saying that it's good here on this page are all over 60, and they're men. Old men.
