Home freezing

My daughter wanted to make a crumble for lunch today and was annoyed that there was not much interesting fruit available at the supermarket. So I dug around in the freezer and found a box of blackberries that, according to the label, we picked and froze on 15 August.

Daughter was amazed that fruit we gathered three months ago was still in tip top condition. I'm not sure what she thought the purpose of the large white cabinet in the kitchen is or how food gets into it, but happy that we could have this conversation about food preservation 🤣

Wait until my Polish mother introduces her to the basics of pickling and fermentation . . it's going to blow her mind 😊

She needs an introduction to the outside cold store - or the cellar, those will definitely blow her mind.

@HootyTheNightOwl My grandfather had an underground store on his farm in Poland. Everything that he and my grandmother could bottle ended up there. One autumn he over-tightened a jar of apple brandy and the resulting explosion made him fear the Russians were invading again.
@SunshineGirl Just imagine what he'd have thought to several such explosions - that would've been terrifying for him.

@HootyTheNightOwl My angry grandmother was even more terrifying to him than a troop of Russians 😬
