Apparently RFK, Jr isn’t the only crazy Kennedy in politics!
Sen. John Kennedy says frozen shrimp sold at Walmart and Kroger is so unsafe, it could “make you grow an extra ear” or worse, thanks to a radioactive isotope found by the FDA.
It is a legitimate recall, however, (but you won’t grow another ear).
The shrimp in question was imported from Indonesia and sold in Walmart under the “Great Value” brand in at least 14 states, including Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Florida. It was found to be contaminated with Cesium-137.
Cesium-137 is produced by nuclear fission for use in medical devices and gauges. It is also one of the byproducts of nuclear fission processes in nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons testing. Exposure to Cs-137 can increase the risk for cancer because of the presence of high-energy gamma radiation. Internal exposure to Cs-137 through ingestion or inhalation allows the radioactive material to be distributed in the soft tissues, especially muscle tissue, which increases cancer risk.
