Do u believe people on food stamps should buy junk food 🍔
There is a huge uproar on Tik Tok about this current issue today. States are now putting limitations on what you can purchase with EBT cards. No more chips and soda and sweets can be bought anymore through the SNAP program. And that you can only buy fruits, vegetables, bread, dairy and meats. Hmmmmm. Do you believe that this is fair ? Do you believe the government should be telling US what to eat. The floor is yours SW. Best answer wins.☺🍊

No man that one is B.S.. Dude if you want to tell them what they can eat on your benefit program, then tell them how they can dress and what they can watch on T.V.. If your going to give benefits leave it at that. If the government wants to help keep poisons out of food then do that not tell someone what they can buy, that is available to everyone else, for food on your benefits program.
@Dainbramadge I find myself agreeing with you there. I'd hope that people don't waste everything on junk food but I believe that's their choice & it wouldn't be right to take that away. It almost feels like saying "poor people shouldn't have the luxury of buying junk food"
@Dainbramadge . Then what about this. Flexible Spending Account at work .. MY money goes into it, pre tax. A govt list exists of what over the counter healthcare items I am allowed to use those funds to buy or reimburse purchase for. Not just specific things like joint health or dietary supplements, aspirin, etc .. but down to specific pkg sizes, brands and some health related items are not covered at all. I've been denied reimbursement for buying a larger bottle size, even though more cost efficient. I have to accept this or not put money in.
How is "no junk food on food stamps" some how seen as worse .. given that is taxpayer money?? I do not get how stuff like this is looked at here in the light of this kind of example.
@BrandNewMan That’s a good question, and I get why it looks similar on the surface. But here’s how I see the difference:
With an FSA, it’s still your money — the government just lets you set it aside pre-tax, so they put tight rules on it to make sure it only goes to qualified medical expenses. It’s basically a tax loophole program.
Food stamps, though, are more like a social safety net. They’re about making sure people don’t go hungry. Once we start saying “you can’t buy X or Y food with it,” it stops being about survival and turns into moral policing. Junk food might not be healthy, but it’s still calories, and it’s still food.
So to me, the difference is: FSA rules are about protecting a tax break. SNAP rules are about controlling what struggling people are “allowed” to eat — and that’s where it feels wrong to me.
I really don't think any charity should come with any strings.
@Zonuss Oh you mean like if your spending my money you buy what I approve and if you want junk food buy it with your own money?? Dude if any part of that sound combative or anything similar, it wasn't intended to be. LOL
@ChiefJustWalks Right brother. I see exactly what you are saying and if you need $20 and I am going to give it to you it really shouldn't matter if your buying crack or twinkies. Just so long as I get my $20 back next week. LOL
