Warning for anyone who drinks tap water after ban in Europe

A French region has banned tap water amid warnings it could be a "warning" for the rest of Europe. 60,000 residents of Alsace, eastern France, have been told by the local government that it had found dangerously high levels of PFAs – or ‘forever chemicals’ – in the water.

Those in high-risk groups – under-twos, immunocompromised people, pregnant women – were advised not to drink water from the taps for the rest of year.
I think that we are at the start of the story,” says Séverine Maistre, who lives in Saint-Louis and who used to work in clinical drug trials. “Currently we are talking about peaks here and there … [But the chemicals] will be everywhere in France.

"It will be the same in Germany, in Switzerland, in the UK, and everywhere.” A 70-year-old woman said: "“Even if we are not fragile we are scared. We are terrorised – this is about water, without which we cannot live.”

There are forever chemicals in all water. There is no such thing as safe drinking water, even the bottled water they are telling you to buy has forever chemicals in it.
@Confined Then what the heck are you supposed to drink?

@Confined

So buy distilled water that comes in
glass bottles for drinking purposes...? 🤔

@MsSwan Exactly. Our govt at work. Depopulate the word. If water is in any other drink it is polluted as well. Nothing and I mean nothing safe to drink.
Confined · 56-60, M
@Thinkerbell You can not filter, steam, or remove these chemicals. Once they are in the water, no way to remove them.
@Confined
Our govt at work. Depopulate the word.

Then what do they drink?

@MsSwan EVERY human on the planet has been poisoned. There is nothing you can eat or drink that has not been poisoned.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Confined The bottle itself is adding them.

@Thinkerbell Distilled water in glass containers by the gallon is difficult to find over the counter. It is available for delivery by several companies

@Gibbon Pour the poison of your choice in water. Try to distil it. The poison will steam or distil right with it. Once in water, always in water, glass or plastic bottles.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Confined I read an article a while back that distilling can remove microplastics but not necessarily PFASs completely

@Gibbon Its a start at least. I use distilled water for my coffee. Tastes a lot better. Tap water here is aweful.

@Confined @Gibbon

"The poison will steam or distil right with it."

Only if the poison has the same boiling temperature as water, which is not likely.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Confined my tap water is the worst well I've ever had. But it's a rental so I'm investing nothing in it to improve it. Minor sulfur is natural to ground water in this area and it's hand dug which means it produces more total disolved substances than a drilled well and casing. I've had wells in other areas of the state that produced more pristine water than the city provides.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Thinkerbell exactly micro plastics don't reach the boiling point and stay in the container but PFASs are all over the temperature spectrum and removal by distilling has been proven questionable at best
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@Gibbon

This article says distillation is effective but slow. For PFASs, firltration would be a better option.

@Thinkerbell I have Zero Water filter which is an expensive but amazing path for my well water. It needs a new filter and hasn't been used in a while. But a filter that can make Coca-Cola turn crystal clear with 0 suspended particles is awesome.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Gibbon Does it remove arsenic, chromium hexavalent, lead and other heavy metals?
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Thinkerbell When I moved here I purchased the Zero Water filter. I measured the tap water and the TDS level is over 500. I decided to buy a 3 stage Whirlpool under sink unit. It's been there for 15 years and never changed a filter. Why? After I installed it and ran over 50 gallons through it to flush the various filter stages the filtered TDS was over 650. Great filter yes? I wonder how many people don't realize they wasted their money trying to improve their water?
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@cherokeepatti Yes and is certified to do so.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@Gibbon

You must mean you got the Zero Water filter after your experience with the 3-stage Whirlpool.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Thinkerbell No I bought it first but the filters are pricey for the amount of well water they treat because the high TDS. I thought a 3 phase filter would say me money. I think the filters do Jack and how can the TDS be higher coming out than what's going in? What a scam .
Confined · 56-60, M
@Gibbon i got sick after drinking water put through zero water filter. Trird and tried to put water through to bleach it outsome. Still made me sick.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Confined I run a full top tank through it first to flush the filter. Never have I had grit or taste issues I've read about. I don't doubt you I'm just saying it needs to be prepared like any filter before drinking from it
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@Gibbon

Ok, but am I understanding you correctly that the Zero Water filter did work, but that the amount of water it treated made it too expensive to use?
