why is everything closing?

some places were needed during the pandemic and they didn't do well either.

Do younger people not shop anymore? Do younger people not cook any more? Do younger people not sew or do crafts anymore?

We don't need fancy clothing stores...that i get but if you don't cook then why are the restaurants dying?

I order almost anything I need from Amazon, apart from everyday grocery stuff, which I get at Uncle Ernie's. I have a "Prime" account. They are surprisingly swift. I live in the middle of nowhere, and I remember all too well how difficult it was to buy something I need at a store which is 25 miles away from my house, only to find out it's not available and I might try again "at a later time" 🤬
@helenS i order alot of stuff too. but i go to different stores. shouldn't that be keeping stores open? so people your age don't like window shopping or trying on stuff or hanging with your friends at the mall?

@LILY61 If I lived in Paris or Berlin or Rome I'd certainly enjoy window shopping immensely. The only shop we have here is "Uncle Ernie's Little Shop of Everything" – which is our local supermarket (ahemm...) and also our post office. And coffee bar. 😏

@helenS I have never used Amazon and I live over 20 miles to nearest big city with a Walmart. I rather shop local and keep people working then put people out of job

@HumanEarth I like your approach very much, though I feel the fight is lost. Online shops will replace locale stores more and more. Have you seen those spooky pictures of deserted malls? 👻
@helenS so you want everyone to have less shopping because you don't go shopping? or are you just throwing in?
@HumanEarth but all the little stores have just about died out because of Covid
helenS · 36-40, F
@LILY61 At least I wouldn't go shopping just to make it possible for others to go shopping.
HumanEarth · F
Thats because you and many others won't stop shopping on-line. You're helping put local stores out of business and make Amazon stronger. Don't you know that
helenS · 36-40, F
@HumanEarth There's no local store anywhere near me, except Uncle Ernie's.
@helenS so for you, it is your only choice. but i really don't understand younger people not wanting to go to the mall and hanging out with your friends and eating at the food court.....and buying stuff
@HumanEarth you know Walmart has put many small businesses out of work permanently right
@HumanEarth companies must adapt or die out; there's existing e-commerce platforms like Etsy, Shopify, SquareSpace, Prestashop, Ecwid, and Big Cartel that can help businesses set up an online store (for a fee ofc); hell, even Amazon, AliExpress, Temu, Walmart, and other major e-commerce players support small businesses by allowing them to be vendors on their websites
@LILY61 malls are dying in America, with many closed down, abandoned, and/or not having as many visitors; in Canada and other countries though, malls are still bustling with activity
@helenS someone here knows how malls work in the USA
helenS · 36-40, F
@uikakarotuevegeta I love pictures of zombie malls!
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
@helenS keep in mind Amazon is strongly supporting Trump and consequently this supports Putin. I’ve just about ceased all Amazon business however I know you’re likely not in the USA and have different marketing conditions to deal with.

@TheShanachie American "Big Business" has always sided with the current president. Always. When Biden became president, Zuckerberg installed "fact checkers" almost the same day. Now that the MAGA chieftain is holding the office, he re-discovered "freedom of speech". They would side with Satan if he became US president. They would also side with God, but not because they are religious.
@uikakarotuevegeta yup, we all know about Wal-mart
@uikakarotuevegeta my are closed, turned into other things...or like a ghost town
@helenS with humans mulling around?

@LILY61 More like this:

@helenS you are right Helen, but the fact remains this time they are supporting a Nazi. But it sounds like Ernie’s is not fitting the bill.
helenS · 36-40, F
@TheShanachie They'll become woke again the day Trump is being impeached.
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
@helenS I hope 🤞
