Yeah but we laugh at you for calling what are basically cookies biscuits.

In that dish the biscuits with butter can stand on their own. The white (country) gravy is not all flour, has a lot of fat and is used to top many foods like traditional gravy. The two together hit the pallet as a scrumptious combination.

It's an American thing. I most countries, biscuits are sweet baked goods. What Americans call biscuits are basically unsweetened scones.

Some of us from England also wonder why it's called gravy. It looks like a white sauce from here. Surely gravy should be based on the meat juices or at least pretend to be like Bisto?

@ninalanyon it should be called sausage gravy but a lot of us just say gravy 😊

@ninalanyon and @ArtieKat It is usually made from what is left in a sauce pan after cooking meat, most times sausage and depending on how much gravy you want to make depends on how much of the drippings you keep in the pan, add flour then milk and let it thicken. The drippings in the pan help to flavor the gravy but usually isn't enough to darken it and sometimes you have bits of meat in it from the sauce pan. It is the same concept with the dried beef I mentioned in my comment, it is also white though the dried beef is dark. In the case of the dried beef it is left in the pan and flour and milk added to it to create the gravy. The dried beef gravy I had as a kid was put over toast. It was one of my favorite dishes. I would continue the tradition if I could find any place that sold dried beef these days.

It really is odd and lacking in any nutrition if you think about it. A carb puck. ..
Looks hollandaise sauce or white sauce on bread or scones.

I had some on Saturday. 😋😋😋

I add diced hard boiled egg with mine to add texture and flavor.
