I often stop at my local cafe and sometimes I eat something, sometimes I just have coffee in the morning or tea in the afternoon. I don't know how it is in your area but where I live cafes are absolutely not a place to meet people. in my area at least, cafes are like a safe spot for people, like the gym, its almost always super innapropriate for a guy to start talking with a girl or for anuone to start talking to anyone pretty much. I go to the same cafe since many years, I am personal friend with 3 of the employees, like they have been at my place for supper or tea but clients? never, never had a conversation with another client. same as the gym.

@reflectingmonkey hmm, so maybe what I'm thinking of isn't a cafe then. There are some restaurants / cafes near me that have live music on certain nights and have lots of cozy style seating indoors and outdoors. I feel like that ambiance makes it easier to chat with people.

@iamnikki oh, i see. if there are bands and alcohol it sounds like a good place to meet people. Its possible that the word "cafe" is used differently here since I live in the french part of Canada.
