@Anniedlr Ah - for generations the main (only?) make of potato crisps in Britain was Smiths, originally sold with the salt held in a small twist of greaseproof paper packed in with the crisps.
So... Walkers took over Smiths, perhaps?
I would not be surprised though if all these brands are now owned by one American conglomerate anyway, even if the snacks themselves are still produced in their home countries.
I have noticed one British manufacturer of potato crisps labels them by the American term, chips - despite crisp and chips being very different forms of deep-fried potato.

@ArishMell More complicated than that, the old best selling brands like Golden Wonder sold their wotsits and quavers to Walkers but not crisps, they are still going and also make many own label packets of crisps. Smiths are similar, do not know what happened to Chipmunk crisps, once a major compasny in the 1960s/70s
