Language is defined by use.

Nobody goes up to a hot dog vendor and says "give me a sandwich".

So there’s an entire category of foods called sandwiches and then there another class of foods with only one member called hot dogs that has exactly the same description as sandwich’s?

@redredred The categories are made up. Hot dogs are just hot dogs.

If I told my wife I was going to make her a sandwich and brought her a hot dog, she'd be a little confused.

@CountScrofula that’s like saying ricotta isn’t cheese because you can’t slice it. It’s a distinction without a difference.
