Kafta or kofta as Egyptians would call it

One of my most favorite dishes ever is Kofta (how Egyptians pronounce it) or Kafta as how Levantine Arabs would say.

Although I never liked red meat, this was a big exception. I think because it is mostly grilled or fried, so I didn't feel the taste of meat? As opposed to boiled/cooked. Idk.

Anyhow, yesterday I saw a video preparing this dish and I craved it, so I decided to make it today with plant based meat.

Note that I once tried to prepare it with real meat a few years ago and failed miserably, the final product was too dry, was nothing like the one my mother made. I still don't know why, i never tried to find out or to re-attempt lol.

I didn't exactly eat in my lunch break but I prepared it, and I fried a little piece to taste the spices in it. Without exaggeration, it tasted EXACTLY like the one my mother would make, and same structure and everything. I am literally amazed at how there is no difference!

Back to do some more work until i am done for the day and will eat afterwards. I am already not feeling well, a bit of a sore throat and headache since the morning. Almost called in sick, but glad i didn't, as I found two reasonably urgent stuff in my inbox. Being done with these, while not very accomplished, i think i am gonna take it easy this last hour, as I am tired .. will post some pics of the final product if it looked good and i didn't ruin it. 🙃

Totally the kofta that I have been eating my entire life, and have not eaten in years too. I swear, if i was given this without being told that it is plant based meat, I would not have known! Only problem I made this dish on the wrong day, as I am sorta sick without much of an appetite!

And the side dish is called baba ghanoush, which is a "salad" that's usually made with barbecue meat.

I have always found it impossible to make anything that my mother or grandmother(s) made and have it be as good. Even from their own hand written recipes. It is just a fact of life that I have come to accept.

My beef is plant based as well though. My cattle only ate plants before I butchered them.

@goliathtree JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A FAILURE IN THE KITCHEN DOESN'T MEA. EVERYONE IS. BESIDES, WHY ARE YOU COMPARING YOURSELF TO A SUPERIOR POTATO TO BEGIN WITH? 🥔😡

@BittersweetPotato If you ate meat, you would be a bit less cranky.

Yes that is a euphemism.

There is a Lebanese restaurant by us that makes that with lamb, and I love it.

But I also like Impossible burger, and I bet that kind of seasoning would go really well with it.

@DrWatson There are two main brands of plant based meat, impossible and Beyond meat. I find impossible to be way better in terms of taste and the way it resembles meat, as I feel beyond has a weird taste. And also in terms of fat, as it hardly releases any fat when i put it to heat, while beyond would fill my pan with all sorts of fats. I used the same seasoning which is very a very simple ome, and it tasted really good.
