Nothing like a nice dinner out ...

So I posted earlier this evening that I was heading out to a work dinner (https://similarworlds.com/food-drink/4882903-Going-out-to-dinner-tonight-Yup-For-those-of-you-who-know-me) and I asked if you all wanted to hear about it. Well the vote was 21-2 in favor so here we go.

First, in my original post I pulled my five favorite things off their online menu and posted them for you all to chime in on what I should have. It turns out that with 46 of us in attendance, the menu was limited to the following:

As you can see, my choices were somewhat more limited. The appetizers were amazing. The bruschetta was so tasty I could have just dined on them. The jumbo shrimp were among the biggest I've ever seen.

For my salad, I chose the Caesar and, honestly, was underwhelmed.

(Sorry the pics are so poorly lit - I didn't want to use my flash in the restaurant)

I say underwhelming because it was hardly dressed at all and the dressing that was there was very bland. Barely tasted like a Caesar dressing at all.

For the main course, I didn't have all the choices that their main menu offered. Of the three choices (ribeye, pork tomahawk, or salmon) I chose the salmon. It came with a single (huge) roasted carrot and smashed potatoes.

The server recommended the salmon cooked medium. I'm more of a "just sear both sides and let it swim to my table" kinda girl, but I went with their recommendation. It was the star of the evening (which I suppose it should be). Taste with the seasoning and butter on top was incredible, texture was perfect. The roasted carrot had a glaze on it and the smashed potatoes were seasoned beautifully. I completely cleaned my plate and had trouble resisting the urge to pick it up and start licking. Also had a single glass of white wine.

And then came the dessert choice. Any of you who have read my prior dining out posts might remember that my favorite dessert of all time is key lime pie. And this pie looked so good when it arrived that I had to excuse myself to the table and use my flash:

This was the only unanimous choice at my table. EVERYONE went key lime over the carrot cake.

That was my dinner. Forty-six of us gathering to discuss 2024 and changes in our strategic direction. ❤️

Salads need to dressed. Decorum is a necessity. The main presentation doesn’t look that great....but it is the taste test that scores the most points. I am glad the salmon was nice. I usually just go for seared but a decent butter certainly enhances the flavour. The pie looks good....but is that real fresh whipped cream or mock cream?

Jealous

Did you solve 2024? Just remember if you can't go right go left.

@sarabee1995 I was after the difference between Key Limes and what we generally get here Limes. I only came across some thin skinned ripe yellow ones this year I was given some and didn't realise they were actually Key Limes. We normally just get the thicker skin green ones.

@KiwiBird As a non-American I can attest that Key Lime Pie is gorgeous!
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@KiwiBird Had to look it up myself...

HOW ARE KEY LIMES DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR LIMES?

“Regular” limes, the kind most often found in the average American supermarket, are also known as Persian limes.

When you think of what a stereotypical lime looks like, chances are you’re thinking of a Persian lime. They have dark green skin, the characteristic oval shape with tapered ends, and can range in size from 2-4 inches or more.

Key limes are much smaller and rounder than regular limes. The average key lime weighs about 3/4 ounce, and it takes 18-20 key limes to yield a cup of juice. In contrast, a medium Persian lime weighs about 3 ounces, and it takes 5-6 regular limes to yield a cup of juice.

In addition to the size difference, key limes also have a thinner skin and a higher acidity level than regular limes, which gives them a more intense and tart flavor.

Ah, they did a custom menu to charge everyone a flat fee for dinner since it was so many of you. Hope you enjoyed yourself!
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@JesseInTX Yup, I guess. I should've known. A lot of the time at these group work events it ends up being a special menu like this.
Straylight · 31-35, F
I love key lime pie too! Definitely better than carrot cake.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@Straylight Absolutely! And the guy sitting next to me was up from the table when the dessert was placed down. the rest of us were arguing over which of us should quickly swipe it! Lol, it was so good.

it looks so fancy but even a rundown Chinese restaurant has tastier food lol
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@SW-User That depends on what you like. The salmon was pretty amazing. 😁
SW-User
@sarabee1995 that’s good to hear; i think I’m too cheap 🤣
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@SW-User Well, this was a work function so it didn't cost me anything.
ArtieKat · M
Well jealous!
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@ArtieKat 😁😁😁
Can't go wrong with Verlasso Salmon.

There is a very interesting story behind how it is farmed, where it is farmed and how it is sustainably harvested.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@Threepio Oh cool. I'll look it up. And it was amazing. 😋

@OldMan70 Yup, really big group. First time we've all been together like this (at least since I've been with the group). We are stationed all over the world.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I'm curious on that key lime pie. Gotta check for recipe.

The other dishes looks very basic and I don't wanna know what you paid for them.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@Queendragonfly I paid nothing for them. It was a work thing. 😁
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
I love those upscale restaurants when I get the chance to splurge. And funny, but I get the salmon often...love it when cooked right
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@Midlifemale I love a good salmon as well. And normally I just want it seared, but they recommended medium so I said fine. And it was soooooo good. :)

DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I would have offended the waiter and staff and asked for a side of Cesar dressing! 🤣

Yes, I know it's not kosher to ask! 😈
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@DeWayfarer If not for the fact that I was with forty-five work colleagues, many of whom I'm meeting face-to-face for the first time, I might have done something like that.
I’m so glad you had a nice evening. I love you. 🖤🤗
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@JustGoneNow Thanks! ❤️
Salmon is a good choice
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@FreeSpirit1 It definitely was!! 😋
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
Looks very good
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@vetguy1991 Except for the salad, it was awesome!
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
I'm sure the occasion and evening chat,made up for the disappointment of the food..Go leave a poor TripAdvisor review for the restaurant though!
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@HotPizza71 I guess you didn't get to the main course or the dessert! 🙂
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
@sarabee1995 oh I did..I wasn't impressed...,they must make a bag of carrots last the whole night with there portions!
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@HotPizza71 Maybe the issue was my photography. It was a big carrot and the entire entree plate was amazing! I'm not a big person so the portions were perfect for me.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
You: Nice dinner *proceeds to show lettuce*.

I love carrot cake!!! How could you! 😠

All in all, that restaurant seems like it looks fancy but wow are they cheapskates. They also don't know a damn thing about presentation, who the fuck serves 3 croutons on the side, one whole carrot, and half a lemon? 😂
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@MartinTheFirst Actually, on presentation alone, I agree with you completely! But I'm not so much of a fancy-pants that I really care about presentation. For me it's about the taste and the main and dessert were incredible. Yes, the salad was disappointing.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@sarabee1995 I hate fancy restaurants, but presentation isn't fancy.. it's basic cooking. It has a lot to do with texture as well, for example... a whole carrot? Do i have to say any more? Cutting it into presentable slices would not only look better, but also have a better texture feel.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@MartinTheFirst Lol, it was actually a subject of conversation at the table. For me, I didn't mind that part.
SW-User
SO,,,,,,,,,,, you past up my offer !

I have worked my butt off for the last 3 hours making this for you

THANKS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Not

@SW-User That looks so amazing!
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@sarabee1995 it looks good but it's a dangerous meal, because you're 4 people paying for that, you somehow have to split the tiny lobster, you get one prawn each, and damn it you all got 2 oysters 🤢
