Can any Italian wine match the best wine of France?

I've read that the general consensus among experts is that in terms of wine production in Italy and France, the Italians are superior in variety and mid-level wine, while the French are better at producing ultra-high quality premium wine. But is their any high -end product from Italy that can,in fact ,match the very best of what the French have?
It can be argued that several French reds can be aged for a long time and gain in complexity (and cost). Other than Barolo, there are not many Italian reds that can do the same. But overall and beyond that, I think they are comparable.

@LamontCranston I guess it depends on exactly what we are discussing. But as I posted earlier, one thing that nobody can dispute is that you know your wine!
