What’s you fav kinda salad?

[c=BF0080] Have you ever tried a chick pea like salad? I’ve only tried this mix. I love it, been making it years now 🥰 My OCD kicks in though trying to get rid of the chick pea skins 🤣

I'm sure it's delicious, but I'd be hiding the chickpeas underneath your placemat.

Field greens with a good dressing, and some crunchy things is my go to.

I draw the line at potato or macaroni salad.

@SethGreene531 [c=BF0080]Not a chick pea person, huh 🤣

Is it just the mayo? You don’t like oil and vinegar type of pasta salads? [/c]
@MellyMel22 In a spicy couscous or hearty stew, I'm good with them.
But when ingredients show up in unexpected places---like green peas in macaroni salad, or apples in potato salad😩---I get nervous 🤣

LOL the macaroni salad the family makes is with Miracle Whip. It's the tangy-sweet combo with the pasta I can't take (and the texture).🙊

Oil and vinegar is always cool in a simple pasta salad with feta though ( rigatoni or spiral).

@SethGreene531 [c=BF0080]I may try a tiny bit of pasta salad w/may once a year if that- but I don’t like miracle whip 🤢[/c]
@MellyMel22 I get that, yeah. Most people don't like miracle whip either.

I do prefer it on deli sandwiches because it has zip. Actually, I grew up on it---all my school lunches.😄

Friend of mine used to make a BLT with it, then added maple syrup.
His food crimes were revolting and renowned 😩 🚓👮‍♂️

But pesto in a good pasta salad is always great!

@SethGreene531 [c=BF0080]That’s just gross that he used syrup with it 😖 My around 3 insisted on sandwiches with peanut butter, jelly, yellow mustard, lettuce and Swiss cheese 🤮🤮🤮 He begged for weeks and I finally said, you know what? Sure! I figured he’d never ask again. He ate it though 🤢 and asked for it regularly for about a year 😩 Now he’d prob ask what’s wrong with me if I asked if he wanted it 🤣

Pesto must be good in pasta salad, I don’t think I’ve had that! [/c]
@MellyMel22 Ha ha ha..oh yeah, he was a unique person. He did similar with PB&J, bananas, & lettuce and luncheon meat on wonder bread 😖

Your son ROFL thats priceless!! And so like boys. I was okay till he added the PB&J, YEAH i wanna gag too 🤣
You were counting he'd get a reality check with the first bite, lol, but that sure backfired!!😆
Great spirit, very adventurous!!
Don't know I could take that for a year thiough. I took a teaspoon of marmite straight, and was immediately cured from kitchen experiments.

For sure, if you told him nowadays he'd think you wee crazy!! 🤣

Jimmy fallon has a show segment with gourmet creations but they're revolting. Guests have to eat them.

Pesto is kinda nice, and would go well in a pasta salad, I agree.
Apparently you can make it from pine nuts--or basil--didn't know that.

@SethGreene531 [c=BF0080]Yuck 😆 Yeah, I was always fussy too with food.

That’s funny.. I’d be so afraid to do that thinking it’s got meat or fish in it 🤣 [/c]
@MellyMel22 I was somewhat---cut the crusts off my bread, and the long veins in xmas turkey grossed me out.😅

Oh gosh yes, they get some terrible surprises..toothpaste, etc, I gag easy so no way for me.😆
MellyMel22 · F
@SethGreene531 [c=BF0080]I cut the crust off too unless it was the white bread w/the seeds, then I cut only the part that didn’t have seeds- which was prob 2/3 of it 🤣 And I stopped eating meat b/c of those veins and that was why I stopped eating chicken after that too. [/c]
@MellyMel22 😆🤣 So you wound up with a little sandwich, about the size of an english muffin!!

Seeds and things bugged me...now I remember I didn't like grapes for a while.

But yeah, the vein thing--that disturbed me for a long time. Had a flash back last year when I hit one 😖

Things like that, and the sickly smell of fresh meat cooking ..especially eggs or poultry ...sometimes make me want to go vegetarian.

I tried it in highschool for 3 months. We did a presentation on meat packing plants in Biology class. I was so turned I stopped eating it for almost 3 months. Been a carnivore since 7 yrs old till then.

@SethGreene531 [c=BF0080]Pretty much, yeah! I still do it 🤣

Yep, I get that!

Biology always ruins things for kids 😆 [/c]
@MellyMel22 LOL the class frogs-- 😖
MellyMel22 · F
@SethGreene531 [c=BF0080]We had dead cats and the entire floor stink like death. I refused to go to class till it was over- I don’t remember if it was a week or longer, but I didn’t go to class the entire time. I told the teacher, I’m not stepping foot on this floor till it’s disinfected and doesn’t stink. [/c]
@MellyMel22 Aw that's horrible! Talk about high school trauma.

I don't blame you at all. I couldn't dissect anything bigger than that frog.
They were in a chemical--it stunk like vinegar.

Can't believe they gave you unpreserved specimens, decomposing.
My joint elementary/high school also used cats for their high school classes.

I remember in 5th grade, 2 seniors displayed a cat pinned open at our annual science fair.
It was soaked in an embalming chemical called Formaldehyde, also used in funeral homes.
It's aroma is overwhelmingly powerful. Not foul, but disturbingly bizzare; like a stew of industrial chemicals.
It smells lethal.
The grim reaper's Aftershave, it clings to you; whispering: "I am death incarnate."

Like you, I've not forgotten the sight nor smell. Or its association.

I've never seen the benefit of using innocent creatures to teach anatomy.
It's not med school.
There's nothing to be gained that can't be gotten in text books or class videos.

@SethGreene531 [c=BF0080]I’m not sure what they did at my school. I refused to go in the room the first day. It was ridiculously strong.

Yuck, open 🤢

I agree. In college my bio teacher had dead fetuses in jars on the tables. That set me off. Prob didn’t help that I had lost a baby in a car accident not long before. But honestly, I don’t think my reaction would’ve been much better had I not.
[/c]
@MellyMel22 My gosh that's too much to take. Especially if unexpected.

I can't imagine how triggering that was after your accident. A revisit with the trauma of it all.
Let me say how sorry I am for your loss. For a mother, the death of a child is a scar that never fully heals.
💜😔 😔
