Little Nutritionist

Eighty had to have a shot today at the doctors office 💉💉💉💉

(My English dad replies “Doctors give kids shots these days? Tequila or sambuca?” 🙄🙄🙄😂😂😂)

She took it like a Champ 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 No tears, she just squeezed her eyes shut tight and said “Ouchie” 😊😊😊😊😊

Her arm has been so sore so I was offering her ice cream and lots of other treats. She said NO, she needs immune system foods to help her body feel good 🦠🦠🦠🦠

Her dinner request?

Oranges, blueberries, pineapple, broccoli, avocado, mushrooms and ramen with tofu 🍊🫐🍍🥦🥑🍄🍜

I’ll serve it up with a sneaky side of 🍪🍪🍪🍪

Good!
Is she eating more than her initial nibbles and gaining weight?
Hopefully not gaunt anymore.
Going to graduate car seat soon?
Raffiki · 22-25, F
@Valerian It’s a level below a high back booster, it’s a 5-point harness seat, rather than using the actual seatbelt.

She’s going into 3rd grade now but I just can’t comfortably move her up yet 😬😬😬

@Raffiki Fully understand!
An accident without such protection is NOT what either of you need.
Luckily she can be walked to school now? Close enough?
Raffiki · 22-25, F
@Valerian Yeah… The doctor said she has a low bone density so her bones would be more likely to break in an accident. It freaks me out so the ‘baby seat’ is much more comforting to me 😊😊😊😊

Yes! We walk to school. Not sure how much safer it is when she decides to run in the road though 😧😧😧😧
@Raffiki Ummm...good, but I was referring to trying to force her to have cookies when she's making great choices without that.

She's getting sugar in her oranges, blueberries, pineapple, and seems to not be suffering from a chocolate deficit (assuming your chocolate chip cookie icon was what was meant lol).

"Homemade" doesn't mean the cookies were made without sugar (& chocolate, for chocolate chip cookies).

You've done a GREAT job of raising a kid who does NOT reach for pop & chips & candy as her "go-to" foods. So don't sour the mix with unneeded sweets--she's on the way to a LONG, happy, HEALTHY life because of *you*! Rejoice in that amazing gift to her.

@SomeMichGuy That is true, but she’s meant to be on a high calorie diet and the cookies are oat based with PB. If she chooses a low calorie dinner like today, I try to give her something alongside it that will boost the calories :)

What a great dinner, but I hope she will find some room for ice cream as well 🤗

Would the prospect of growing out of her 'baby' seat be an incentive to eat a bit more at dinner time?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Raffiki I'm sure that's a much healthier approach to child health than in the past.

I never had a problem with eating a balanced diet, but people were always making assumptions and comments because I was a small child and couldn't easily put on weight. I got quite stressed at times because I thought teachers would stop me from doing gymnastics or one of my other sports if I didn't get bigger 😟

Well.done for all your efforts and homecooking 🤗💖
Raffiki · 22-25, F
@SunshineGirl Yeah I can see that being so stressful for a kid 😬😬😬😬😬 I try to make meal times zero-stress. Serve her food and talk about something else. If she doesn’t want to eat that’s chill but she has to stay at the table until I’m done. If she was allowed to say no and go back to playing she’d probably never eat 😅😅😅😅😅

Thank you 😊😊

@Raffiki I think you must be doing a great job for her to have such adventurous tastes 🤗

That's a good rule, not just for dinner time but for life 🙂
Don't screw with her taste / nutrition sense.

We have had sugar added to every packaged food and it has hurt us.
Raffiki · 22-25, F
@SomeMichGuy I totally agree. The cookies are homemade and our kitchen is mostly filled with wholefoods 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 All good here 🍏🍏🍏
