I believe isn't the food itself, it's how you cook it.
Here in Italy SUSHI is very popular, everyone wants to go to eat sushi, there are sushi restaurants everywhere.
Except it tastes like SHIT. Real sushi is yummy, and if you want to have it here, you should pay a lot. Not just your regular 30-40euros you pay in average sushi restaurant, or even less, if you do the all-you-can-eat formula.
I had great sushi abroad, and I imagine Japanese Shushi in Japan would taste mostly very good.
It's the same with hamburger and fries, if you eat them at mc donalds or something they're like 🤮, if you eat fries in a fries-place in Brusselless they are WOW.
Like, as Italian, I assure that if you eat Italian food in UK or USA etc, it's often really disgusting. There are nice Italian restaurants abroad too.
