I don’t mind though my main issue is with the amount of sugar in carbonated drinks. That is why I will dilute them which reduces the carbonation by a fair bit. I don’t like sugar free anything as it has a bad effect on me and it isn’t refreshing.

@StrawberryMilkshake There are carbonated drinks that are sugar free, overloaded with artificial sweeteners. Way sweeter than they need to be

At first I read "carburetion" and was confused

But agreed, except for wine and beers (although in both cases I prefer the ones that aren't too bubbly)

@Elessar Same here.

This is why I love polar carbonated water. It BITES! It's like those pop rocks only you drink it. An intense sensation and definitely an acquired taste.

I love sparkling water with lime and I love sparkling wine. Never experienced any pain.

@StrawberryMilkshake now a White Russian without the alcohol is coffee milk! The alcoholic version tastes way better. 😈

I recently purchased a 2 liter bottle of Vernors ginger ale. When I grabbed it, it did not feel firm, but I thought nothing of it.

When I opened it later that evening, there was no hiss, and it had no fizz. The bottle was sealed properly. I guess they forgot to inject it with bubbles!

It tasted normal, but without the carbonation it just was not the same. No throat tickle! I drank it fast because I was worried that it might spoil faster without the acidity from the carbonation.

I thought of complaining but was too lazy.

@StrawberryMilkshake

Oh, I did not know that. Well, it is all drunk and the bottle in the trash. Next time I will only buy the firm, pressurized bottles!

@StrawberryMilkshake

I grew up in Ohio, so drank it in my youth. It was so fizzy it often made my gag, LOL!

I have lived in the DC area for two decades, and have found it here, too.

Now imagine I had a coworker who prefers sparkly water “carbonated water” even without any flavor or sweeteners..

He even invited me for it! I was like, 🤢 dude!! What am I supposed to do with this??!
One of the sweet tastes I enjoy is the sweet-sour combo. To me, carbonation in a sweet drink is a form of that sweet sour combo, and very refreshing in my mouth. These days, commercial carbonated drinks taste too sweet to me, so I prefer to mix seltzer + fruit juice. 2/3 seltzer to 1/3 orange juice is a good mix. Cranberry + lime seltzer in similar ratios is also very good.

Of course, de gustibus non disputandum est, YMMV, etc.

@StrawberryMilkshake That's exactly the way I feel about "salted caramels." We can buy these delicious dark chocolate covered caramels sprinkled with sea salt, and although they're not bad with the sea salt, they're far better, to me, after I chip away the sea salt.

Regarding carbonation, in my perception the sensation is a bit similar to mild capsaicin spice. To me some foods taste better with the mild 'sting' of hot pepper, and some beverages with the 'sting' of carbonation. De gustibus non disputandum est.

I tend NOT to drink soda because I don't like the carbonation

I don't mind light carbonation, but some carbonated drinks are way too strong.

I try not to drink fizzy drinks anymore for that very reason. It burns. :)

@StrawberryMilkshake The only soda type drink I used to imbibe was a naturally carbonated spring water my Uncle used to get from Mount Te Aroha. He added fresh lemon juice to it.
SW-User
Yes! I don't get it either. It holds no appeal for me.

I always flatten my soda. If you buy a bottle and loosen the cap before you put it in the fridge it takes away most of the bubbles. The taste of cola without the bubbles is great IMO
CountScrofula · 46-50, M
You may just have sensitivity to that kind of sensation. I've got a friend who can't do carbonation for the same reason - it hurts.
YescaLillian · 26-30, F
Sometimes you’re so desensitized to a refreshing feeling that one can’t live without that pain

It's a little stingy but so are lots of things we love. Snorting lines of meth (militantirish I'm looking at you), straight alcohol, waxing our vageens.... Ya know, all the good stuff

I like a bit of fiz in soft drinks and I don't really fancy a flat beer 🤔 over fizzy maybe not.
