Why is a tomato classed as a fruit when we treat it like a vegetable?

@Crazychick Tomatoes taste great fresh from the garden! Most other vegetables require a bit more preparation to enhance their palatability.

@VeronicaPrincess I see what you mean, but why do we eat tomatoes with vegetably things and not with fruity things? That's the main point of my question.
