Why is a tomato classed as a fruit when we treat it like a vegetable?

Depends on whether you are a botanist or a nutritionist I think. Tomatoes are fruits that are considered to be vegetables by nutritionists.

@helenS I meant we treat them as vegetables in the way we eat them and cook with them. We don't put tomatoes in cakes but we put them in vegetable soup. That sort of thing.

@Crazychick Maybe to the man on the street fruits are sweet and vegetables are not?

@helenS That's the way they are to everyone.

@Crazychick Not to a botanist 😁

@helenS In that case, botanists are weird. Thank goodness I don't personally know any. Lol :)

@Crazychick To a botanist, strawberries are nuts.
The strawberry has seeds that are on the outside of the fruit and not on the inside as in most fruits (surrounded by flesh and the seeds in the middle). By the same logic, raspberries and blueberries are also nuts.

In fact botanists are nuts 😁

@helenS You can say that again! Lol :)
