Are you a generous tipper?

I try my best to tip as much as possible. Having been in food service a number of years (owned and operated two smaller- scale restaurants) I know the hardships servers go through on a near daily basis.

People seem to be at their worst behavior when eating out complaining about things a server has no control over. When they head to the back to advise cooks of the complaints issued the verbal abuse continues all over again.From either a chef or owner.

The shift work is long and tasks go far beyond just serving food.

Customers frequently are already drunk when they come in making matters worse (both physically and mentally) and yet are expected to create a cheerful, happy environment.

Granted there are times the server is at fault, like everyone else they are human subject to human failings now and then.

Just some "food" for thought.

I was brought up by waitresses, survived on my mother,s tips since the pay was 78 cents an hour for waitresses and spent a lot of time in a city diner as a kid so...yeah, big tipper

@Grateful4you Street angel, house devil. My heart breaks for you. I think it was just the way he told you that bugs me a little...but, he was right.
@Fernie Thanks for all your thoughts on this. I have to get back to packing for my move this week. Will be SO glad when all this chaos of moving is over. Love you hon, Meow, and Bijoux.🥰

I aim to tip 20% as long as service is standard. I have never lowered that amount because of kitchen issues (cold food, something cooked wrong, etc.)

Yes. At least 20% for ok service. Great service more like 30
@Chevy454 One of the good guys. Great to hear.

I always tip. I can't imagine not tipping. These people work hard

@SW-User OH! damn right!
There are many low paying jobs and many of those people don’t even get “tipped”. @Grateful4you
I meant many people are hard working are also hard working. @SW-User

I treat them politely, but I'm pretty stingy about tips. Sorry, but I'm not rich to throw money around.
@Dan193 No one expects you to go broke eating out. My own rule, if I can't afford a decent tip I can't afford going out.

@Grateful4you Yep, sounds about me xD

@Grateful4you Well said!!!

My standard is to leave around 15%. Give or take, depending on quality of service.

@SW-User I agree on your tipping too. Just bringing my order to the table is their job and doesn't deserve a tip,of any kind, when the services increase then so does my tip
@SW-User Fair enough. The environment I created was such that people enjoyed just "hanging out" walls lined with books, fun and upbeat granted, most of those things didn't generate a ton of money but customer satisfaction made the work all worthwhile.
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Well their job pays about $4/hr ( if that)so they depend on tips@turbineman40
I give a minimum 25% tip.

I always tip at least 20% or more, when I know a server is at least trying to do a good job. I've worked in the position, and I know it isn't "easy" at all. I know how little their actual salary usually is.
Success · 26-30, F
I stay away from places where tips are expected.
