Before you invented the cup of tea, did you drink your favourite loch?

Only Campbeltown Loch. Monsters fill half the others, Nessying all over the place.

@helensusanswift I like that... Nessying, lol
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Quizzical If you know the old song, it goes 'Oh, Cambletown Loch, I wish you were whisky.'
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@helensusanswift I've never heard that before. You do have a keen interest in History though don't you.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Quizzical Yes, indeed.
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
Campbeltown Loch, och-aye
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
I would drink you dry
Now Campbeltown Loch is a beautiful place
But the price of the whiskey is grim
How nice it would be if the whiskey was free
And the Loch was filled up to the brim
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
Campbeltown Loch, och-aye
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
I would drink you dry
I'd buy a yacht with the money I've got
And I'd anchor it out in the bay
If I wanted a sip, I'd go in for a dip
I'd be swimmin' by night and by day
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
Campbeltown Loch, och-aye
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
I would drink you dry
We'd have a gathering of the clans
They'd come from near and far
I can see them grin as they're wading in
And shouting, "Slainte mhor"
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
Campbeltown Loch, och-aye
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
I would drink you dry
But what if the boat should overturn
And drowned in the Loch was I?
You'd hear me shout, you'd hear me call out
"What a wonderful way to die"
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
Campbeltown Loch, och-aye
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
I would drink you dry
But what's this I see, ochone for me
It's a vision to make your blood freeze
It's the police afloat in a dirty big boat
And they're shouting, "Time, gentlemen, please"
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
Campbeltown Loch, och-aye
Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whiskey
I would drink you dry

@helensusanswift Nothing like reinforcing the stereotype that all Scots are drunkards is there, lol

That said, my Scottish uncle had to give up drinking as he had badly damaged his liver with it, and the week after he did the distillery down the road closed down... 😯
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Quizzical They spelled whisky the Irish way, though!
Drinking in Scotland is diminishing, strangely, particularly among younger people. I hardly ever drink, my husband never drinks - strange isn't it, Scottish stereotypes?
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@helensusanswift I've found the ones about them being tight with money are not true either, lol
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Quizzical No - careful perhaps, but person for person, Scotland gives more to charity than any other nation in the UK and probably anywhere else.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@helensusanswift I think it probably stemmed from them being frugal and not wanting to waste anything. Things get magnified and distorted, which is how stereotypes seem to begin.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Quizzical You are probably correct. It's like the stereotype that all English are arrogant snobs, when most are pretty decent folk.

@helensusanswift Probably best if I bow out of that one as I am pretty arrogant, and certainly a snob, lol

I just like to call it 'having standards' 😁

@Quizzical Nothing wrong with having standards; everything wrong with being arrogant.
