That said, my Scottish uncle had to give up drinking as he had badly damaged his liver with it, and the week after he did the distillery down the road closed down... 😯

Drinking in Scotland is diminishing, strangely, particularly among younger people. I hardly ever drink, my husband never drinks - strange isn't it, Scottish stereotypes?

@helensusanswift I've found the ones about them being tight with money are not true either, lol

@Quizzical No - careful perhaps, but person for person, Scotland gives more to charity than any other nation in the UK and probably anywhere else.

@helensusanswift I think it probably stemmed from them being frugal and not wanting to waste anything. Things get magnified and distorted, which is how stereotypes seem to begin.

@Quizzical You are probably correct. It's like the stereotype that all English are arrogant snobs, when most are pretty decent folk.
