Do you like western food?

@4meAndyou Jello salads was a big part of summer potlucks when I was young...church dinner or whatever half the women would bring a Jello salad because they didn’t want to heat up the kitchen by baking stuff in the oven.

@cherokeepatti That's right. I have a family cookbook, and the jello salad section is huge. But they would also fry chicken, because a lot of them were farmers, and raised chickens. And I still remember the huge watermelons (with seeds). We always put them in a tub of cold water.

We had all those foods on the farm in northwestern Missouri. I don’t think most people eat that much Jello any more. I used to make a Jello salad with strawberry Jello, 2 boxes of frozen strawberries and a small angel food cake cut up into cubes & topped with whipped cream. It was really good for a potluck.

@cherokeepatti When I was a kid, I used to love my Aunt Darlene's cherry jello salad. She would start with a layer of sweet cherries and cherry jello, and when that was set she would add a layer of mixed cream cheese and whipped topping, and then cover that with a layer of plain cherry jello.

@4meAndyou I have done something similar with cranberry Jello for Thanksgiving. Made 3 layers...bottom layer pure cranberry Jello, second layer whipped cream cheese and cranberry Jello, top layer whipped Jello very light and topped with whipped cream.

@cherokeepatti I didn't even know they [i]made[/i] cranberry jello! Sounds good!

@4meAndyou I don’t know if they still do, haven’t bought Jello in a decade. I was making a blackberry wine cake and they stopped making blackberry Jello but Royal made it so bought up a few boxes, I think Royal is putting artificial sweeteners in their regular gelatin now so I won’t buy it.

@4meAndyou When people mentioned they eat Chinese food, nobody ask what is Chinese food. 🤔
