I Used To Watch Little Mermaid As A Child
I was 9 when Little Mermaid (That most of us know) was released. I loved the movie because Ariel's red hair and being a redhead I felt a connection. I know it's dumb, it was then and even admitting it now it's kind of cringy. My friend Anna made fun of me for liking the Little Mermaid and dubbed it a baby movie from the start, but see Anna wasn't verbally abused for years by a grandfather because of her hair color, and I'm almost positive there were a lot of Disney princesses that were blond. To me Ariel being a ginger made me feel special.
I am kind of sad knowing that the new Ariel won't be a ginger, but I can't think of a better person than Halle Bailey to be Ariel. If I am ever blessed with a granddaughter perhaps she will feel a connection to this Ariel as I did to the one in 1989.
It baffles me terribly why so many people think a Disney princess (very fictional mermaid no less) has to always remain the same. Though I will always be partial to the one I grew up with, I am looking forward to watching the remake.
