i just back from my grocery store. they are open. even the government run liquor store was open.....come over for a ham dinner

Good. The staff deserve a holiday too! Obviously some services and industries cannot stop, and tourist businnesses rely on others' holiday, but there is no real reason for ordinary shops including supermarkets to be open on Bank Holidays.
