Happy Onam!! Its a festival celebrated in the South of India in a state called Kerala. Its celebrated across religions where everyone is treated as an equal.. Look it up and read up on its legend.
@SW-User Not really. Kerala is celebrated as a place where all castes are considered equal. Although this is not fully true, the caste system is not as strictly observed in Kerala as it is in the rest of India. The state has 100% literacy and most people are socially and politically aware. Onam is a festival that is celebrated once a year and by people of all religions although the myth and legend is based in Hindu mythology. Ironically here the celebration is welcoming the "demon" king who was banished to the nether world by a God using deception. And the "rug" is a ceremonial flower carpet that is done in various designs in front of everybody's house during that day in his honor.
