In the US, the only necessities the average person can buy without a loan are food and clothing. Most people cannot afford houses anymore, having to rent with roommates. Most people use loans for cars, and outside major cities public transit is absent. Hope you never actually need healthcare.

@ViciDraco I meant to add college/postsecondary education, which is also another very expensive thing which some cannot afford.
