I've had one (with first ex) from 1998 until I left her in 2011 then the house went to her and she had to take over the loan with her now husband.
I bought my own house by myself in 2023 at age 55 with a 30 yr mortgage until I'm in my 80's to pay off. I just re-financed it to increase it a bit for some minor reno's. Big reno's will never happen unless I win a lottery.
Second ex bought her house in 2007 with lots of financial help from her parents and paid it off in 2016 - 2 years before I left her. I rented for a lot of the time in between all this going on.
To quote single women - "I baked the cake myself" 8-) No help to get where I am in life from anyone except a very small slice of inheritance from my late mum's estate (My sister got nearly $1 mil I got 1/10th of that which helped build up my deposit to buy my current place). I got sfa from my late dad's estate.
