Ever been duped by insurance companies?

Laying in bed last night I was thinking about how often we read about insurance companies not doing the right thing by their customers.
A few years ago I had a car crash which saw my vehicle totaled.
Surprise, the insurers agreed to pay $13500 on my written off Toyota Rav4. I paid $14000 plus add ons.
They also agreed to pay the residual still owing. About $4000.
So though I needed to buy another car, I had no debt hanging over my head.
Do you have any good or bad Insurance stories?

Oh yes. My 2006 trailblazer by lady going in the opposite direction. It got totaled and I got nothing.

They said that I was going too fast... when I was traveling behind a firetruck. The firetruck driver couldn't be certain that it was me. I was quite a ways behind him on a windy road and he didn't see the accident.

You don't drive close to a firetruck though. Not during fire season.
@DeWayfarer That sounds bogus.

@Spoiledbrat well let me put it this way. The lady had to be going thirty five miles an hour on a twenty mile an hour curve. We both ended up in the ditch on my side of the road.

Insurance always assumes you're going too fast. In a no fault state you get nothing if you can't prove it! Proving it costs money on the spot before it gets towed.
Once our insurance company tried not to pay us because our car got totaled and it wasn't our fault. We had to push it.

@Spoiledbrat They will try it on. One has to be persistent and never give up.
They had to pay us 20k for it. We miss it though. I would have rather had my car back. @Gusman
