What would you do if you won $1 trillion?

1. Set up charitable foundations:

a. one for projects to help reduce global warming -
possibly:
- building giant kelp farms in cold temperate regions near the edge of continental shelves (absorb CO2 and provide food, fabrics and medicines)
- build offshore wind farms
- provide free solar voltaics, batteries and electric cars for people who can't afford them
- pay for research on how to save the arctic tundras

b. Create an institution to fund excellence and truth in journalism,
- fund research and publications by public intellectuals, and
- fund think tanks and forums for educated and informed debate

2. Keep 5 million to build a house for me and my husband and invest for a comfortable retirement.

Set up a charitable foundation. Invest the winnings (around $500 billion after taxes) in safe and sustainable investments to grow the total wealth available. Go around looking for good causes that need significant monetary support. Do what I could to make the world a better place for as many people as possible.

Pay off all our debts, of course, plus the outstanding debts of pretty much all my friends and family (fuck my brother, though — he can die poor). Move somewhere desirable (New Zealand, maybe) and run the operation from there.
