Budget questions

Hi all

I have a quick favor to ask for any of you that are engaged in project finance.
In our final budget vs actuals for a project, the salary lines for a few staff are overspent by up to 30% and the verification team has asked for explanations on these. Now since all the salary lines are overspent, its not like we can say it balances off with savings in other salary lines so was hoping on a few suggestions here. I know I'm the one who has the background info on the project and would be able to explain this better but maybe some generic answers or suggestions to assist please.

Thanks a bunch!

@tallpowerhouseblonde Or just place a value on your staff. Is that difficult? We put a value on everything else.
@Blodyn human capital is valued in wage and that is institutional not managerial

@Blodyn Some staff have "non jobs" that have been created by their friends. Some people are incompetent and are carried by the efforts of others. Some just attend meetings all day and don't do any actual work. Some are overpaid. Some talented people get overlooked and leave for a better job. Some staff spend more time on sick leave than attending work.In a business all costs need to be justified.

@ianon Oh I am sorry to be so ignorant. Generic answer!

@tallpowerhouseblonde That is where you need to look. All must contribute to profit. Sorry I'm an Art student. I have no idea about business.

@Blodyn It's all good.A lot of people in business don't know about business.

@Blodyn It isn't really a revenue-generating project. We're an NGO and this project was targeted at raising advocacy on constitutionalism. I guess I should have mentioned this bit as well in my post but I guess profit in a way that achieves the targeted outcomes and beyond

@tallpowerhouseblonde I started my business last year. With help from the Enterprise Hub. We have business courses and coffee mornings for us kids setting up! I am very new at this but I agree with your comment.

@boopy It is difficult to place value on such outcomes. Just pick numbers out of the air?!
@boopy how do you measure outcome, was it launched online where you can monitor that with data or what? if so you could use that if it is good information to use aka means your project was successful and present that

@Blodyn I agree and also which is why I'm struggling to link the overspending to the achieved outomes
@boopy could you not accumulate feedback from subjects that are familiar with the project? and if the feedback is positive ,again, you would be in luck. it would be easier to brainstorm had we more information but good luck a 30% overspent is ,ooft
