It’s no coincidence that people of color started dominating boxing

Once they were granted equal rights and allowed to actively compete in what once was predominantly white-dominated sport. It all goes down to boxing’s ties to economics. Who is going to fight harder than a man who comes from nothing; who grew up in the poorest and most oppressive communities to where he’s stepping into the ring for nothing else than to kick ass or have his ass kicked? Go to any boxing gym in any poor ghetto and you will see for yourself: there is a hunger — a yearning for fighting that you will not find anywhere else. Black and Hispanic communities are still among the highly oppressed in the country, that’s the sad reality of it. But that is exactly why they have always produced the best fighters.
