50 years ago today! I feel old.

Sad to think none of those people/countries exist today.
This is going to be one of those footnotes in sporting history lost to every generation other than those of us remaining that recall what a big deal the whole thing was at the time

@Picklebobble2 George Forman is still with us
It's too bad Ali won because losing - and losing badly - may have made the man quit boxing.
@Lugwho

I'm of an age when certain movie stereotypes like tough-talking cigar-chewing midgets, funny stumbling drunks in evening clothes and - especially - punch drunk washed-up palookas were routinely featured in movies.

@rinkydinkydoink I'm old enough to remember when they still had a boxing tent at the local fair. Survive 3 rounds to win a prize. I never saw anyone beat the stall "champ". It's fair to say the "champ" barely knew what day it was.
@Lugwho

Your remembrance is sad yet funny. Remember Jerry Quarry? Bruce The Mouse Strauss is still alive, though, but I don't know how or why.

@OldBrit I always thought I'd seen this on TV live. A little bit of google shows that to be a bit unlikely as it started around 3:00am. BBC showed it in full later in the evening. Must have been a full on Likely Lads event to avoid hearing the result.
