I Love Boxing

I'm 40, female & have been boxing for 14 years. I started Brazilian jiu jitsu a year & half ago but unfortunately my old injuries are catching up to me now. I'm addicted to ground work but not sure what I'm going to do. I've been an athlete most of my life but the pain keeps me awake at nights

I understand that feeling, my father was a champion boxer in Russia. He desided that I would do it to. Even though I didn't really choose at first I understand falling in love with it. Iv fought longer than I can remember, with or without my dad iv been through so many stiles of fighting, I had a bad car crash that messed up my neck and took lots of rehabilitation and it's been a while but I actually miss it. There has to be a way you can still do this still get you "fight on" I don't know maybe there's a lighter stile of or modify version of fighting like rehab fighting... even though that sounds like an oxymoron. I'm trying to get back in to it but I have to remind myself to take it slow. "You have one body to live in" you can't completely destroy the one your in but we also cant live in it without living like were dieing.

You have work the muscles around the muscles that give you trouble. Right know I'm just doing the punching bags and light work out with a sparing partner. Make sure he or she knows your injuries or fight with somemone with similar injuries as you you can both work on the strangthin ur muscles. Ask a trainer or dojo about this I'm sure they would understand. There is also deep 6 spray works well on a lot of things and tiger balm. And make sure you have proper raps to, ice and worm combo help I'm sure you know this.

Must be hard for you. I've been fighting half my life. I've always steered clear of weight training to stay as light as possible but my physio has recommended I start for strength especially with bjj. Lol I'm actually starting to enjoy it and the boys I roll with are noticing how much stronger & explosive I am

hmmm....Try and find a physical therapist specialist who can give you some advice? Or.... maybe there's some other athletic activity that can still challenge you without keeping you awake in pain?

Wow that's amazing. Were you always into combative sports or did you do other? What type of pain are you having?

I was actually a competitive swimmer as a kid. My next door neighbor was a national boxing lightweight champion so kinda fell into it & have loved it ever since. Pain is in the neck & left arm which was bad from months ago. Maybe I've got to come to terms with getting old now
