So The Lord of the Rings trilogy is apparently set to return in late 2027.

I'll give it a chance. Hopefully the new trilogy will be better than The Hobbit trilogy.

If I have to make a guess I'm thinking it's going to be so bad that we're going to appreciate The Hobbit trilogy.
