My favorite villains are Nyarlathotep, Azathoth and Cthulhu of course.
Superheroes? There are no superheroes. Only humans who will become insane, or kill themselves when they see Nyarlathotep.

It's a blessing that we don't understand the universe. Those who do will become mentally deranged. The universe was not made for us. We are irrelevant.

@helenS Of course
Straylight · 31-35, F
@helenS I never saw them as evil, just are what they are.
Well, maybe Nyarlathotep.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Straylight You are right, they are what they are, and they relate to humans like humans relate to ants.

@Lugwho You know what I'm talking about?
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS I do now I've googled lol
helenS · 36-40, F
@Lugwho It's "pulp fiction" as an art form.
All his famous critics are gone and forgotton (Edmund Wilson – anybody remember?) but HPL is still running strong.

Howard I love thee and thine eldritch creatures! 🥰
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@helenS I'm not generally a fan of the genre, but maybe I'll give it a go.
Straylight · 31-35, F
@helenS I like Robert E. Howard as well. I believe they were friends.
Pulp fiction had a certain charm to it.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Straylight Howard is the author of that super-virile, ultra-masculine Conan. Yes he and HPL were friends.
If you really like weird fiction, I'd strongly recommend Robert W. Chambers' "The King in Yellow", one of the predecessors of HPL.

@Lugwho Try "The Music of Erich Zann", it's a good starting point to enter the Lovecraft's weird cosmos. It should be available for free on the internet.
Straylight · 31-35, F
@helenS I have that. Read it way back when I first got into Lovecraft. Surprisingly I found out Chambers was more known for romance than horror.

If you want something interesting from the historic perspective, I’d recommend The Cult of Alien Gods by Jason Colavito. It’s about HP Lovecraft and his influence on culture.

@Straylight
The Cult of Alien Gods by Jason Colavito.
Thaaaaank you! 💋
I was running out of good pulp, and the silent days between Xmas and New Year's Eve will start soon...
